Why Talking to Yourself Is the Secret to Unlocking Your Best Ideas
Let me ask you something — and it’s a question I’ve been throwing around a lot lately:
How old are you?
No, not your biological age. Not the number on your driver’s license.
I’m talking about how old you feel… how old you act.
The Age That Doesn’t Match the Numbers
I’m in my late 40s — closer to 50 than 40 — but honestly? Most days I feel like I’m in my early 30s.
The music I play.
The jokes I laugh at.
The way I move, speak, and think.
It doesn’t always match the candles on my birthday cake.
And the interesting part? I often connect more with people much younger than me — same humor, same movies, same sports. At the same time, I know people only a few years older than me who seem decades apart in energy and perspective.
So it makes me wonder… when do we actually “lock in” to an age that feels like us?
Growing Older vs. Staying the Same
Of course, we all mature. We grow. We learn. We carry wisdom we didn’t have in our 20s.
But deep down, that internal age — the spirit age — doesn’t always change.
I can picture myself at 60 still blasting the same songs, cracking the same jokes, and feeling like I’m in my 30s.
And maybe that’s the point: our bodies age, but our inner age — our vibe — is something else entirely.
The Two Big Questions
Here’s what I’d love for you to think about:
How old are you, really?
Not physically, but in spirit, in mindset, in personality.
When does that internal age “lock in”?
Is it in your 20s when your brain finishes developing?
Is it shaped by life experiences — hardship, joy, or responsibility?
Or is it something unique to each of us?
Why It Fascinates Me
I’m not a psychologist or neuroscientist — I’m just curious.
At networking events, I’ll meet people my age who feel “older,” more serious, more weighed down. Then I’ll meet younger people who feel like peers — lighthearted, energized, and aligned.
It’s not always about liking the same music or sports — it’s about sharing the same vibe.
So, How Old Are You?
Maybe age isn’t just a number. Maybe it’s a reflection of mindset, perspective, and energy.
So I’ll leave you with this:
How old are you… really? And when do you think that inner age was set?
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment, start a conversation, or reflect on it quietly — either way, it’s a question worth asking.
